Australian summer, which runs from December to February, is a time of year when many Australians look forward to spending time outdoors enjoying the warm weather and various activities. The summer season is characterized by long days, high temperatures and a lot of sunshine.

During the summer, the weather is generally hot and humid, with temperatures ranging from the high 20s to the low 40s Celsius (80s to 110s Fahrenheit) in many parts of the country, particularly in the northern and western regions. The southern and eastern regions tend to be cooler, with temperatures in the high teens to low 30s Celsius (60s to 90s Fahrenheit).

Summer is a popular time for beach-going and swimming, with many Australians heading to the coast to soak up the sun and cool off in the ocean. Popular beach destinations include Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Gold Coast’s Surfers Paradise and Western Australia’s Cottesloe Beach.

Summer is also a time for outdoor sports and activities. Many Australians like to play cricket, tennis, and soccer in the park, while others enjoy going for a hike or bike ride in the countryside.

Summer is also a time for festivals and events. Many towns and cities host outdoor concerts, film screenings and cultural festivals, with the most famous being the Sydney Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Adelaide Fringe and Perth Festival.

Despite the fun and joy of the summer season, it’s also important to remember that the summer heat can be dangerous, particularly for the elderly and young children. It’s important to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen to protect yourself from sunburn and heat stroke.

All in all, summer is a time for enjoying the great outdoors and embracing the warm weather, making it a great time to visit Australia.

The Australian skilled migration points score is a system used by the Australian government to assess the eligibility of skilled workers who wish to immigrate to Australia. The points score is based on a range of factors such as age, qualifications, work experience, and English language proficiency.

Under the current system, applicants must score at least 65 points on the points test in order to be eligible to apply for a skilled migration visa. Points are awarded based on the following criteria:

The points are awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Age: applicants aged between 25 and 32 receive the most points (30), while those aged under 18 or over 44 receive no points.
  • Qualifications: Points are awarded for having a relevant tertiary education and for holding certain professional qualifications.
  • Work experience: Points are awarded for having relevant work experience in your nominated occupation, with more points being awarded for longer periods of experience.
  • English language proficiency: Points are awarded for having a high level of proficiency in the English language, as determined by an approved English language test.

Additional points can also be awarded for certain criteria such as:

  • State sponsorship: Additional 5 points are awarded for the candidates who are nominated by a state or territory government.
  • Partner skill qualifications: 5 points for the partner of the applicant who has the relevant qualifications and/or work experience.
  • Community language: 5 points for the applicants who have proficient in community languages other than English.
  • Professional Year in Australia: 5 points for the applicants who have completed a professional year in Australia.

It is important to note that the points system can change over time and it’s always recommended to check the most recent information and seek professional advice. Also, keep in mind that meeting the minimum points score does not guarantee a visa, as the government also takes into account factors such as occupation ceilings and other factors relevant to the visa category.

Australia has a fascinating history of migration that has shaped the nation as we know it today.

It all began with the arrival of Indigenous peoples thousands of years ago, who have played a significant role in shaping the culture and heritage of this land. However, the arrival of the British in the late 1700s marked the beginning of a new era in Australia’s migration history. The establishment of a penal colony in Sydney brought the first wave of European settlers, mostly convicts, to the continent.

The 19th century saw a significant influx of migrants from around the world, including China, Ireland, and Italy. This period also saw the forced migration of Indigenous peoples to missions and reserves, which was a dark chapter in our history.

The 20th century brought about the implementation of the White Australia Policy, which aimed to restrict non-European immigration. This policy was gradually dismantled in the post-World War II period, leading to a diversification of the Australian population. As a result, we’ve seen an influx of migrants from all over the world, particularly from China, India, and the United Kingdom.

Today, we are a multicultural society with a diverse population that reflects our rich history of migration. Despite the challenges that have been faced throughout Australia’s migration history, it has played a significant role in shaping our culture, economy, and society.

In conclusion, Australia’s migration history is a complex and varied one, marked by both challenges and successes. It is a story of resilience, determination, and the human spirit, and it will continue to shape the nation for years to come.

English language requirements generally apply to applicants wanting to study or work in Australia.

The Department of Home Affairs accepts scores from the following tests undertaken at a secure test centre for English language visa requirements:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT)
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS), including One Skill Retake (OSR)*
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE)
  • Cambridge English (CAE) (also known as C1 Advanced)
  • Occupational English Test (OET), noting this is a test developed for health professionals

From 14 December 2022, IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) will be available for certain test takers.  OSR allows test takers to retake one of the four test components in either reading, writing, speaking or listening (once only).

For Australian visa purposes, the Department will accept IELTS test results that include OSR, with the exception of applications for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which need scores from a single sitting/attempt.
